New Smyrna Beach Breath Test Machine Outside Of Compliance Due To Excess Cologne
The New Smyrna Beach intoxilyzer 8000 recently tested outside of compliance. This occasionally occurs and it is often the result of many common excuses that do not relate to inaccuracies of the machines. Some of the common excuses are cell, phones, radios, leak in the hose, bad seal, poor ventilation or a loose hose. During the February inspection New Smyrna Beach had an issue with the intoxilyzer 8000 and decided to depart from the standard excuses and come up with something new. The exact language is 00: Interferent Detect. OFC W/EXCESS COLOGNE REMOVED. Non-compliance: INTERFERENT FROM COLOGNE, RFI FROM CELL PX. The issues or officers were removed and the machine was retested with the following result A F / M A: Range Exceeded. UNKNOWN WHY, RETESTED. The end result was that the machine was compliant so the machine stays in service and all of the breath tests remain valid. The one odd thing from the results is that the inspections were performed at 08:46:09 and 09:58:48 and data of the tests were from 08:03:04 and 10:37:01. It is odd that the data was uploaded before the test was performed. It is possible that data was uploaded for other purposes or that the agency is trying to mask an invalid test. The only way to know for sure what is going on is if all intoxilyzer 8000s were under constant video surveillance so the inspections could be observed.
